WEEK OF AUGUST 28 – SEPTEMBER 01

MONDAY:

Warm Up: Share and collect story endings for “The Lady or the Tiger?”
Classwork: Introduce and begin reading aloud “Flowers for Algernon” (44-60) in literature book.
Homework: Finish reading part 1 only of “Flowers for Algernon” (44-60). There will be a check test tomorrow. (8.1.spi.6,7,11,12,18,24,25)

TUESDAY:

Warm Up: Charlie wanted more than anything to be smart or at least as smart as other people he knew. What are some sacrifices people make to fit in? (1/2 pg.)
Classwork: Take a check test over part 1 of “Flowers for Algernon.” Answer “Reading Check” A-D ?’s and ?’s 1-9 (61) in CRS. Turn in before the period’s end. Distribute guidelines for the first book report. (8.1.spi.6,7,11,12,18,24,25)
Homework: Complete the written assignment on p. 61 if you did not finish in class. Study for tomorrow’s story quiz over part 1 of “Flowers for Algernon.” Also, review book report/project guidelines.

WEDNESDAY:

Warm Up: Sometimes we want to be like everyone else; sometimes we like to be different. What is good or bad about being unusual? Explain. (1/2 pg.)
Classwork: Take story quiz over part 1 of “Flowers for Algernon.” Discuss the story. Then review the book report/project guidelines. (8.1.spi.6,7,11,12,18,24,25)
Homework: None

THURSDAY:

Warm Up: Complete Daily Oral Grammar for “Flowers for Algernon.”
Classwork: Read part 2 of “Flowers for Algernon” (63-72).
Homework: Answer “Reading Check” ?’s A-E in CRS (74). There will be a check test tomorrow. (8.1.spi.6,7,11,12,18,24,25)

FRIDAY:

Warm Up: Complete word puzzle on overhead.
Classwork: Take a check test over part 2 of “Flowers for Algernon.” Discuss and collect “Reading Check” A-E ?’s.
Homework: Answer ?’s 1-8 in CRS (74). There will be a story quiz next Tuesday. (8.1.spi.6,7,11,12,18,24,25)

MONDAY:

Warm Up: Fear often makes people do surprising things. Describe a personal experience in which fear influenced or affected your behavior in some way. (1/2 pg.)
Classwork: Read “The Right to the Streets of Memphis” (510) in the Moments book. Answer ?’s 1-4 (514) in CRS. Then, on the same notebook paper, answer ?’s 5-8 (handout) in CRS. Turn in by period’s end.
Homework: Work on internal conflict project due Wednesday.

TUESDAY:

Classwork: Take story quiz over “The Right to the Streets of Memphis.” Take notes on the plot peak.
Homework: Read (15) in the literature book and take notes. Work on internal conflict project due WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY:

Classwork: Collect internal conflict projects. Take quiz over conflict. Complete a plot peak for “The Right to the Streets of Memphis.”
Homework: None

THURSDAY:

Classwork: Review plot peak. Listen to the story, “The Lady or the Tiger?” by R. Stockton. Working with a partner, complete a plot peak for the story. Discuss the story’s plot.
Homework: Study for the plot peak quiz tomorrow.

FRIDAY:

Classwork: Take quiz over the plot peak. Finish discussing the plot peak for “The Lady or the Tiger?”.
Homework:Write a conclusion for yesterday’s story. Your ending must begin with the following sentence: The princess signaled the handsome youth with her right hand. He’s opening the door on the . . . Your conclusion must be at least 1 1/2 pages. It must be written from the 3rd person point of view. It’s due MONDAY.
