WEEK OF NOVEMBER 27 – DECEMBER 01

NOTE CHANGE: Novel tests will be taken on Friday, December 1st. Students must read a book found on Ms. Allen’s book list. Idea: If you’re planning on purchasing some books at the G.M.S. Book Fair this Thursday, you might want to buy a couple of books from the book list. You will required to read at least two or three more books from the list. This assignment was made on library day, November 1st.

MONDAY:

Warm Up: Read “Make the Connection” (119) and complete the “Quickwrite” (1/2 page minimum). Then read the remainder of the page.
Classwork: Read “The Medicine Bag” (120-127). Then take related “Check Test.”
Homework: Continue reading your book report book for Friday’s novel test.

TUESDAY:

Warm Up: Read “Meet the Writer”  (128).
Classwork: Read “I am Kwakkoli” (129). Then complete ?’s 1-9 (131) in CRS. Turn in by period’s end. Discussion to follow.
Homework: Continue reading your book report book for Friday’s novel test.

WEDNESDAY:

Warm Up: Complete “Daily Oral Grammar” on overhead.
Classwork: Take story quiz over “The Medicine Bag.” Class spelling bees will follow in order to determine class winners who will participate in the school-wide spelling bee on December 5th.
Homework: Continue reading your book report book for Friday’s novel test.

THURSDAY:

Classwork: Write a timed expository essay on the following prompt:

NOTE: Novel tests will be taken on Tuesday, November 28th. Students must read a book found on Ms. Allen’s book list. Idea: If you’re planning on purchasing some books at the G.M.S. Book Fair this Thursday, you might want to buy a couple of books from the book list. You will required to read at least two or three more books from the list. MONDAY:

Warm Up: Read “Make the Connection” (92) and complete the Venn diagram according to the directions in the book. Lest at least 3-4 in each section. Then read the remainder of the page.
Classwork: Read “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” (94-101). The take related “Check Test.” Introduce vocabulary #5 words.
Homework: Work on voc. #5 cards: Create 12 cards, one for each vocabulary term, by writing/drawing each word so that it illustrates its meaning. Look at the examples on Ms. Allen’s chalkboard for a reminder of how to create your cards. Due WEDNESDAY

TUESDAY:

Warm Up: Review instructions for the family metaphor poem. Final form is due THURSDAY.
Classwork: Complete “Reading Check” A-E and ?’s 1-8 (103) in CRS. Turn in by period’s end. Discussion to follow.
Homework: Continue working on voc. #5 cards if necessary. Due WEDNESDAY. Continue working on your family metaphor poem. Final form due THURSDAY.

WEDNESDAY:

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 06 – 10

MONDAY:

Warm Up: What animal are you most like and why? Note: The question does NOT ask about the animal you like best; it asks about the animal most like you and in what ways. Explain (1/2 p.)
Classwork: Participate in comparison activity. Introduce figurative language. Review similes and metaphors. Complete simile/metaphor handout on notebook paper. Keep until Tuesday.
Homework: Work on Voc. #4 cards: Create 12 cards, one for each vocabulary term, by writing/drawing each word so that it illustrates its meaning. Look at the examples on Ms. Allen’s chalkboard for a reminder of how to create your cards. Due WEDNESDAY

TUESDAY:

Warm Up: Complete simile review on overhead.
Classwork: Review similes and metaphors. Finish working on Monday’s assignment and turn in when completed. Novel Check: Sign up on book report list.
