WEEK OF MAY 14 – 18

MONDAY:

Warm Up: Dr. Ben Carson’s autobiography is entitled Gifted Hands. Dr. Carson feels God gave him a gift that he is obligated to use. What are your God-given gifts? What talents and/or skills do you possess? How are you using them? In what ways could you use them? Explain. (1/2 page minimum)
Classwork: Distribute novels, Gifted Hands. Then read aloud the introduction and chapter 1.
Homework:
Read chapters 2 & 3 of Gifted Hands.

TUESDAY:

Warm Up: None
Classwork: Discuss chapters 2-3 then read aloud chapter 4.
Homework:
Read chapters 5 & 6 of Gifted Hands.

WEDNESDAY:

Warm Up: Take check test over chapters 4-6.
Classwork: Discuss chapters 5-6 then read aloud chapter 8.
Homework:
Read chapter 9 of Gifted Hands.

THURSDAY:

Warm Up: None
Classwork: Discuss chapter 9 then read aloud chapter 10.
Homework:
Read chapter 11 of Gifted Hands.

FRIDAY:

Warm Up: None
Classwork: Discuss chapters 10 & 11.  Then choose any one of the remaining chapters to read silently.  Your last graded assignment:  Write a 1/2 page paragraph summary of the chapter you independently read then write a second 1/2 page paragraph sharing your ideas/opinions/response to the novel Gifted Hands.  Turn in it when finished.

Warm Up: None
Classwork: Read handout, “Survival in a Concentration Camp” and complete page 26 on notebook paper. Remember to answer in CRS. Turn in on wall for a grade. Finish reading “I Have Live a Thousand Years” (4-11) and, if time permits, other Holocaust-related articles in the READ magazine.

Classwork: Introduce color poems. Complete two color poem prewriting chart select on color, choose one color and begin writing an original color poem.

Final form of original color poem is due Monday, 5/14.
